If you don’t keep watching the throne, someone just might take it from you.
Kanye West has jumped to the top of Forbes’ 2019 Highest Paid Hip Hop Act list, leaping over last year’s leader Jay-Z. With the strength of his 1.5 billion dollar Yeezy shoe line, Kanye reportedly pulled in $150 million from June 2018 to June 2019. That’s more than enough for him to swipe the crown from his friend and frequent collaborator, who locked down $81 million for the year.
In total, the haul from Yeezys are impressively about half of what Nike grabbed with Air Jordan last year. It has put Kanye into a new class, helping him jump from number ten to number one on the list.

Jay-Z has been knocked down a notch, but he still has had a strong 12 months, helped in part by the On The Run II tour with Beyoncé. West also ranks above Drake, who comes in at number three with $75 million.
This is great news for Kanye West, who has had an uneven week. The artist was called “two-faced” by Taylor Swift in her interview with Rolling Stone, but was congratulated by Brad Pitt for his work with Sunday Service in his own interview.
Up next, Kanye potentially drops a new, unconfirmed album on September 27 called Jesus Is King.
