Nicki Minaj dropped some facts this weekend, coaching fans on toxic relationships and sharing her own story about an abusive partner she was scared to speak out against.

“I really used to think love had to hurt. So I could never look down on anyone else,” Minaj explained after offering a list of the things that a man who loves you wouldn’t do. It includes indisputable items like, humiliate you, beat you, or cheat on you. Seemingly obvious examples, but sometimes tougher to recognize from within the situation, according to Minaj.

“It’s not easy to leave. Especially in the world of IG where all people want to do is post relationship goal pics for clout and attention. A man should make you feel safe, not afraid.”

The lesson on love from Minaj comes as rumors about her own marriage have begun heating up. Nicki was spotted last month at the Beverly Hills Court House, getting paperwork at the marriage license bureau window. She’s also since changed her Twitter name to Mrs. Petty, reflecting the last name of her boyfriend Kenneth Petty.

“I remember being so afraid to speak cuz I never knew when that person would be in a particular mood and I could maybe say one wrong thing that would get me hit,” she added before talking about the change in her life since reconnecting with her teenage friend Petty. “The difference you see in me now is that feeling when a woman feels lifted up, safe, appreciated and unconditionally loved.”

“I first had to learn how to love MYSELF.  If you wouldn’t let a man treat your mother, your sister or best friend like that because you LOVE them, then you wouldn’t let a man treat YOU like that because you love YOU,” Minaj explained. “This isn’t about judging. We judge too much. Lift them up.”

Minaj and Petty can be seen together in her video for “MEGATRON” released earlier this year. Nicki also recently jumped on “Hot Girl Summer,” with Megan Thee Stallion and Ty Dolla $ign, with a video out now.
