This is gonna be so hype, over Memorial Day Weekend we’ll be getting not one but two Verzuz battle. Yes, it’s officially official, the match-up between 112 and Jagged Edge is set for Monday at 8PM ET.
The battle between these two groups was teased to fans during an Instagram Live with Swizz Beatz and Timbaland just this past weekend. The co-founders hopped on to discuss that evenings battle between Ludacris and Nelly, and ended up talking about other possible match-ups.
Durning the Live, Swizz peeped Jermaine Dupri in the comments, and decided to put him up to the challenge. Dupri signed Jagged Edge to So So Def back in the 90s.
Swizz let him know, “I would love to see Jagged Edge vs. 112. Get them on the phone, JD. Let’s go.” Timbaland added, “come on now, don’t play no games.” Well, no games were played and Dupri delivered.
Both of these groups have extensive catalogs and we have no doubt they’ll be serving up classic hit after hit. A few obvious choices include; for Jagged Edge, “Let’s Get Married” and “Where The Party At.” And for 112, “Only You” and “Peaches and Cream,” but lets be real the list could go on. Ugh! We’re so freaking excited for this one we could scream.
But before we get ahead of ourselves, first we have battle number 1 of the weekend on Saturday. The first non-R&B/Hip Hop battle will go down between Jamaican reggae artists Beenie Man and Bounty Killer.
We can’t believe Swizz and Timbaland are really about to spoil us like this. Especially since they had originally planned on taking MDW off. But as Swizz Beatz told Variety, his fellow artists and fans, made sure he and Tim switched up those plans.
“I was going to take Saturday off… but I’m getting a lot of pushback from the artists and the audience to keep it going, especially since it’s a long holiday weekend and everyone is stuck indoors. So I said, ‘I’d better tell Tim we’re going to work this weekend.'”
Adding, “we wanted to switch it up and add some Caribbean style with Beenie Man and Bounty Killer, and also give everyone a treat with another celebration with Jagged Edge and 112 as that was in popular demand – all for Memorial Day Weekend.”
Can we get an Amen! Well we for one are glad these two were persuaded to changed their minds and bless us with these two celebrations of music.
