Some familiar names top the bill for Farm Aid 2019. Board members Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews will take the stage on September 21st in East Troy, WI.
Nelson, Young and Mellencamp have played at every Farm Aid, which has been held most years since the inaugural benefit in Champagne, IL in 1985. Matthews has been there every year since becoming a board member.
Other artists performing this year are Bonnie Raitt, Tim Reynolds (with Dave Matthews), Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Margo Price, Jamey Johnson, Tanya Tucker, Brothers Osborne, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, Yola, and Particle Kid.
Farm Aid was founded to raise awareness about the loss of family farms and to raise money to keep families on their land. The mission remains the same today – with heightened urgency.
"With devastating weather, low prices and harmful farm and trade policies, America’s family farmers are facing immense challenges to hold onto their farms,” Nelson said. “At Farm Aid 2019, we’ll highlight solutions and show our support for family farmers’ contributions to our health, economy and environment.”
Matthews is singing a similar tune: “Everybody in this country should have access to good food,” he said. “And the people produce the best food – our family farmers – should be able to produce it without being afraid of going hungry themselves because they can’t make ends meet.”
This is the first year Farm Aid will be held in East Troy. Tickets go on sale on July 12th.
