The rock community has continued to lead the wave of breaking the stigma surrounding mental health. With tons of honesty and courage, musicians like Killswitch Engage frontman Jesse Leach are proving it’s ok to ask for help.
After opening up about his own struggles on social media, Jesse is continuing to share a look into the journey that is mental health. This time, in the form of a driving new song. “I Am Broken Too” is the latest release from Killswitch Engage, and assures a close friend that they’re not alone in their struggles.
“It’s about someone that I love dearly who had a breakdown,” Jesse tells Alternative Press of their new song. “And it was somebody who was living a ‘normal life.’ On paper, you would look at this person and think he’s got it made; he’s doing great.”
“It was a perfect way for me to write a song that isn’t just an anthem but can raise awareness and connect with the listener and make people feel less alone in this world if they’re dealing with mental health issues,” he explained.
Along with bringing more awareness to the complexities of mental health, proceeds from the song also benefit Hope For The Day. Hope For The Day is a nonprofit that focus on suicide prevention by providing resources and education through the use of music and arts.
