Fred Rogers would definitely approve of Tom Hanks portraying him on the big screen.

While Hanks stars as the beloved children’s show host in the film “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” the two never got to meet prior to Rogers’ death in 2003.

Like many fans across the world, it turns out the two-time Oscar winner was also Rogers’ favorite actor.

That tidbit of information was revealed in a new featurette included in the home release of the 2019 movie, reported People.

The acclaimed film’s director Marielle Heller also disclosed how surprised Hanks was to find out Rogers was such an admirer.

“Joanne [Rogers, Fred’s widow] revealed to us that Tom Hanks was Fred’s favorite actor,” Heller says in the clip. “They never met. And when I told Tom this, he was like, ‘What!'"

Although Hanks and the “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” host never got to connect, the “Forrest Gump” star has since also received Joanne’s approval.

“I think Tom Hanks is just the nicest person you could ever want to meet,” the 91-year-old added. “And you hear that from everybody, but that’s my own experience with him.”

Hanks previously revealed how stepping into the role of Fred Rogers was “terrifying.”

The renowned actor found the part so challenging because Rogers "was a very, very public persona. And everybody has an idea of what Fred is, what Fred was like, the mysteries behind Fred."

Despite his initial fears, Hanks received his sixth Oscar nomination for his role in “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” and is up for Best Supporting Actor against Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt at the Academy Awards on Sunday.
