Dancing is always at the center of a new BTS video, but this time the K-pop group steps aside for their orchestral new song, “Black Swan.”
The Slovenian modern dance troupe called MN Dance Company takes the spotlight in the art film for their latest release. The song and video are inspired by famed dancer and choreographer Martha Graham, and opens with a quote from dance legend. “A dancer dies twice – once when they stop dancing, and this first death is more painful.”
According to a release from Big Hit Entertainment, “Black Swan” is a “Emo Hip Hop” song from the group, that “lends voice to their fears that one day music will no longer be able to move or touch them.” It appears after reaching new stratospheric heights around the world, BTS are starting to think about their legacy and their time on top.
“It is a confession of an artist who has truly learned what music means to himself,” they add.
It’s all very grand as the flurry of strings rise and limbs flail, gaining in speed and intensity before slowing to something solo and simplistic as the “Black Swan” emerges from the ashes of all they have overcome.
