Christina Aguilera didn’t spend much time on the road in the middle part of this decade, and the reason was simple: she was raising two children.
The “Genie in a Bottle” singer is in the middle of a Vegas residency now, though, and she stopped by Kelly Clarkson’s new show to catch up. The two pop stars shared stories about what it’s like to go on tour with children.
“I got really scared,” Aguilera said of the prospect. “I’m like ‘how do people do this?” “I know kids need routine and structure – bedtime, the order, and how are you supposed to do that whenever you’re in different time zones every night and things are changing.”
The 38-year-old made it clear her job doesn’t end when then curtain goes down.
“And then you’re off-stage and you’re like, ‘Oh, the bedtime stories.
Okay. Almost there.'”
Clarkson added: “And then they’re like ‘sing me a song’ and I’m like ‘I just did; you’re welcome. You didn’t have to pay for it.’”
And then there’s the times when their kids don’t want to hear them sing again, and their celebrity and talent mean nothing to them.
“It’s kind of awesome,” Clarkson said. “It keeps us humble ’cause our kids don’t care at all.”
Aquilera shares an 11-year-old son with her ex-husband and a 5-year-old daughter with her fiancé. Clarkson and her husband share a 5-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son. She is also a stepmom to two of his kids from a previous marriage.
