Halsey has tapped into her Country side on “You Should Be Sad,” finding some steel guitar and confessional songwriting on the latest preview of her upcoming album Manic.
In the video directed by Colin Tilley, the singer visits an underground dance club, rolling in the literal hay and showcasing her line dancing skills in a bikini and a cowboy hat. Halsey has her “boot scooting” on point, for some of the sexiest synchronized dancing in history in a sea of like-minded bodies.
The line dancing isn’t the only Nashville tribute packed into “You Should Be Sad,” with Halsey also borrowing some iconic leopard-print looks from Shaina Twain, and appearing naked on the back of a horse. That’s Country right? Anyway, there’s maybe no better nod to Country music than her sincere storytelling that unfolds inside her latest song.
“The most petty and heartbreaking songs all come from country. I wrote YSBS on my living room floor on my guitar. Lots of time in Nashville too,” she answered a fan on Twitter. “Xtina, Gaga, Carrie, and of course Shania, this was one loaded with nods to badass idols of mine. Had the vision to do a ‘before he cheats’ but instead about after he does haha.”
In November, Halsey appeared at the CMA Awards, performing with Lady Antebellum.
