“Do you know who you are?” asks Harry Styles, as he sways in a sea of people. The question is one of many the singer asks in “Lights Up,” our first official sample of Styles’ upcoming sophomore solo album.
“Lights Up” leans in an atmospheric and layered R&B world, shelving the Rock and Roll swagger of his 2017 debut, at least temporarily. Instead Styles steps into the light and shines with dreamy choirs, twinkling piano, and a hopeful hue.
Want more proof of this positive step forward into the self-assured world of Harry Styles? Along with song and video comes the launch of a new website, DoYouKnowWhoYouAre.com. It poses that very question and asks you to enter your name to find out. Then it tell you things like, “you’re important” and “you are marvelous,” signed with love by Harry.
It’s all a part of the more open and in-touch Harry Styles, which he detailed earlier this year in an interview with Rolling Stone. "I’m discovering how much better it makes me feel to be open with friends. Feeling that vulnerability, rather than holding everything in,” he explained. “I will tell you that I can be really pathetic when I’m jealous. Feeling happier than I’ve ever been, sadder than I’ve ever been, feeling sorry for myself, being mad at myself, being petty and pitiful — it feels really different to share that.”
