Mariah Carey went to bed last night, still wearing that amazing wig from Halloween, and woke up ready for Christmas. Magically transported with her custom Christmas pajamas, Mimi gets a wake up call from the one and only Santa, and “it’s time.”
With that haunting holiday out of the way, it’s officially the start to the Christmas season. At least it is for Mariah Carey, who is celebrating the 25th anniversary of her Merry Christmas album this year, featuring the modern classic, “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” The song is one of the 15 biggest-selling singles of all time in any season, and is of course the most successful Christmas song by any female artist ever. It’s the stuff movies are made of, literally, and one of the most enduring songs of all time.
25 years of those iconic chords ringing out. 25 years of that amazing voice. How does a legend like Carey mark such an outstanding occasion? Well, the Queen of Christmas is ready with a Deluxe Anniversary Edition of the album and much more.
The update to Merry Christmas will include previously unreleased recordings, bonus material, and new packaging. There’s also a live performance taken from The Cathedral of St. John The Divine on December 8, 1994 in New York City.
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” is also getting released on its own in a variety of formats, marking the first time the song has ever been commercially released as a single. Mariah has also released a new video for the song featuring unreleased footage from the original shoot in 1993.
This month, Mariah will also play 5 special All I Want For Christmas Is You Las Vegas shows, taking up residency at The Colosseum in Caesars Palace. You can find the full list of dates here.
