New Kids On The Block have been hard at work during the current pandemic, recording and filming a video for their brand new song "House Party" with a bunch of famous friends, all while under quarantine.
The track features some big names like Boyz II Men, Jordin Sparks, Naughty By Nature, Nicole Scherzinger, Kid N Play, and Big Freedia, as well as some of the band members' families.
Joey McIntyre, Jordan Knight, Donnie Wahlberg, and Danny Wood explained to CNN how the project came from talking online with fans about getting something new out of them while we're all stuck at home - and they casually asked for some help.
"Literally, an hour later a song was in my phone via text," Wahlberg explained. "A music track, and I sat right there at the table and just started writing 'House Party.'"
"Look, let's make the best of a really bad situation," says Wahlberg. And that's exactly what they're doing. The already viral track will be generating proceeds for the charity No Kid Hungry, which aims to provide vulnerable children with nutritious food and teach their families how to cook healthy, affordable meals.
This latest NKOTB project didn't come without its own hurdles; recording equipment had to be shipped to everyone involved, and producers were forced to listen via FaceTime to provide feedback on the song's progression.
"It was over the course of three of four days we all recorded, sent the files off, then the song was done," says Wood. "It happened really quick."
"People have got sick relatives and bills to pay and kids to take care of and all this stuff, and everyone still found time to put in all this effort," Wahlberg said. "That's when you know something really wonderful is happening. Even if it helps two people feel better about this quarantine, it's worth it."
