Normani has found “Motivation” in a few iconic videos from Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, and Rihanna.
The former Fifth Harmony singer has released her highly-anticipated debut solo single, the bouncy and brassy “Motivation,” written along with Ariana Grande. The sultry song comes with a video honoring classic clips of the 90s and 00s, starting with Normani in her childhood living room watching BET’s 106 & Park.
Normani flashes into scenes from Beyoncé’s “Crazy In Love” with the legendary white top and jean shorts, before being transported to the front steps and basketball court of J.Lo and Ja Rule’s “I’m Real.” As the horns come in, so does the rain for a potential homage to Rihanna’s “Umbrella” video. Through it all, Normani brings it with next level dance moves and swelling swagger.
Can you spot all of the tributes in “Motivation”?
Normani first teased new music earlier this month, telling RADIO.COM station B96 about plans to drop something at the beginning of August during an interview at Lollapalooza. "I want it to be special because I've spent 7 long years being someone that doesn't fully represent who I am," she explained. "My fans will be happy it took this long."
Currently on the Sweenter World Tour with Ariana Grande, Normani lit up when she mentioned how much Ari's involvement meant to her. "She's been so supportive of me," she said adding that Ariana encouraged her to be comfortable putting the record out without any features.
