In a time when nostalgia is in high demand and reboots are all the rage, Jamie Lynn Spears has swooped in to delight the Gen Z-ers who long for the days of, sidekick cell phones, the local shopping mall Claire’s store, and of course, the Nickelodeon golden era.

Since mid-October Jamie Lynn has been teasing rebooted Zoey 101 content across her social media platforms, and on October 27 the actress dropped a nostalgia-filled, star-studded music video, where we get a modern twist on the original Zoey 101 theme song, “Follow Me.”

Spears partnered with DJ, producer, and social media sensation, Chantel Jeffries to give us the reworked Zoey 101 theme. While the music video features Jamie singing the reimagined song and most of the original Zoey 101 cast appearsthe piece is also set up like a casting call for a probable Zoey 101 part two.

With Gigi Gorgeous at the helm of the casting call, playing the director, we see appearances from young stars looking to take on the roles of the classic PCA students. Jojo SiwaSofia Reyes, Harry Jowsey of Netflix’s Too Hot to Handle, and TikTok star, Dixie D’Amelio are all present for the audition.

As Spears sat down with RADIO.COM's Julia, the actress shared that she is also getting to revisit her childhood, just as so many fans are getting to relive the glory days of Zoey 101. “I’ve loved Zoey. I mean I grew up playing Zoey, so it's so nice to get back to, you know, essentially like my childhood,” Jamie Lynn tells us.

Jamie also adds that the whole goal of this reboot is to put something “positive” back out into the world after we’ve all faced a challenging year. The nostalgia of it all is meant to be comforting.

Throughout the new “Follow Me” music video Jamie says that she and the team really tried to fit in as many references to the hit show as they could, even including a shot of the famed pear laptops that were supposed to be a riff on Apple computers. Spears says, “we wanted to just, you know, make it to where the fans could look for the easter eggs, and every time I even watch it I find more things.”

At the start of 2020, the ball had begun rolling for a full production reboot of the highly favored Teen Nick show that remains prevalent in our cultural zeitgeist, however, like so many other facets of the entertainment industry, the COVID-19 pandemic put a halt on any plans for a full reimagining of the show.

After months of quarantine, Spears and her team wanted to give the fans something while still being safe. Jamie Lynn and her manager, Sherry came up with the idea to re-craft the Zoey 101 theme song and shoot a music video that gave fans a glimpse into the reboot that’s in the works.

Over a zoom writing session, Spears and Jeffries sat down together to recreate the magic of the show’s theme song, but with a more adult and current-day twist, while still being true to the “OG Zoey.” Jamie shares that they really wanted to give fans “a taste of the new Zoey era to look forward to going into 2021.”

When reuniting with her old castmates during the music video shoot, Jamie tells us that the whole experience was touching yet wild to witness. “It was different this time for me because my kids were with me… and seeing the kids that I grew up with and my daughter in that same environment that I grew up with… this was like a weird time for me,” Jamie Lynn explains. She adds, “It was almost like I was living in two different time zones.”

Regardless of hurdles this year, Jamie Lynn tells Julia that the reboot “is full-on happening” and it’s really a matter of timing. The singer and actress shares that the team is in a "good place creatively” and now “it just a matter of the business side of things.”
