It might be the most wet and weird clap back in history, with Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello answering kiss critics with a new post on Instagram.
“We saw on Twitter and stuff, you guys saying stuff about the way we were kissing and how it looks weird, like we kiss like fish” Mendes solemnly acknowledges, as Cabello sits beside me. “Really hurt our feelings,” Camila adds.
“We just wanted to show you how we really kiss,” he says, before the two lean in.
What happens next is odd and awesome and hilarious and possibly a health hazard? The two open mouths and extend tongues, rubbing chins together like two people who just landed here, having never seen an actual kiss before. They can only keep it up for a few seconds, before Cabello erupts in laughter.
The “Señorita” couple are in Mexico, after wowing the crowd north of the border last week with an on-stage kiss during Shawn’s set in his hometown of Toronto. The pair punctuated the performance of their hit duet with a full-on, everyday human kiss, not like that eskimo kiss at the MTV VMAs and not like whatever this is in the post above.
Elsewhere in the world of “Señorita,” an adorable cover from Nick Casas and his 4-year-old daughter Sienna has reached the height of viral fame, earning the two an invite on to Ellen, performing the song and catching the attention of Camila.
“Can we sing it with you guys forever from now on and can I also squish her cheeks,” Cabello wrote on Instagram Wednesday, reposting the performance.
Next up, Camila and Shawn continue to take their love international, with Mendes bringing his self-titled tour to Asia. You can find the full list of upcoming dates here.
