Katy Perry revealed the name of her highly-anticipated fifth album on Instagram today. The album is called… Drumroll please… Smile.
The announcement coincides with the release of a snippet of the title track, which will be coming out this Friday, July 10 at Midnight local time. "I wrote the title track from the album when I was coming through one of the darkest periods of my life and had lost my smile. This whole album is my journey towards the light - with stories of resilience, hope, and love," she captioned her Instagram post.
Smile marks Katy Perry’s first album since 2017’s Witness. The album, due out on August 14, has already seen Perry share several singles.
She gave her first official preview of Smile back in May when she shared the song “Daisies.”
“They said I'm going nowhere, tried to count me out/Took those sticks and stones, showed 'em I could build a house/They tell me that I'm crazy, but I'll never let 'em change me/'Til they cover me in daisies, daisies, daisies,” she sings in the chorus.
The song followed “Never Worn White,” which also served as the announcement of her pregnancy. It marks Perry and her fiance Orlando Bloom’s first child together.
Following the announcement, Perry took to Instagram Live that she’s expecting a "jam packed summer" because she will be "giving birth…literally" to both a child and a new album.
Anticipation was already high for the revelation of her new album title. Yesterday, she took to social media to tease the album art and invited fans to “tweet to pop.”
Once fans tweeted about the album art, they were able to “pop” one of the balloons that was obscuring the cover. "Try your luck to reveal Katy Perry's Magnificent New Album Cover," read the carnival booth featured in her tweet.
Smile will be released on August 14 and is available to pre-order now.
