Ashton Irwin is trying out the solo thang and it took about 5 seconds for our freak out to begin once we heard this news.

Surprising some of his fans with the announcement on Twitter, and we say some because you know how hard fandoms go and the other lot already had an idea. Earlier this week 5SOS fans noticed Irwin’s reported new album Superbloom listed on Apple Music, along with a preview of its first single, “Skinny Skinny.”

And while at first staying mum, Ashton’s “explosion of joy” could not be contained, deciding to share the news with the world, well the Twitter-verse, but like same thing.

Ashton started things off by saying, ”It is with a great explosion of joy and with my entire soul that I proudly announce that I am releasing my first solo record on Oct 23. #Superbloom explores my inner philosophies and feelings about the walk of life I have found myself on.”

“I’m ridiculously excited to share this with you, it feels like this record has been over a decade in the making. It brings me the greatest joy of all that I am in a band that allows me to create freely inside and outside of it. I can’t wait for you to hear it.”

Not even waiting a second for reactions to flood in, Ashton then added the following: “I’m ridiculously excited to share this with you, it feels like this record has been over a decade in the making. It brings me the greatest joy of all that I am in a band that allows me to create freely inside and outside of it. I can’t wait for you to hear it.”

Phew!  Looks like this sidetrack into solo-sphere isn’t for good, which is fine with us, the more music the better.

And as some of his beloved stans already knew the first single will in fact be “Skinny Skinny,” but what they might’ve not known is how soon we’d be getting it. “The first single 'Skinny Skinny' is out everywhere tonight.” Yes ladies and gents, he said tonight, as in just a few more hours.

He also added, “We must fight against a common darkness that shadows our ability to live truthfully, to live without self doubt, and without self destruction and love ourselves for what we are.”

Giving us some insight into the meaning of the song, Irwin explained, “When writing this song I thought of myself and many other young peoples’ struggles with body image, particularly body dysmorphia. It’s something I’ve never confronted in a creative form & I’m feeling strong in saying 'Skinny Skinny' goes directly to that painful place in my mind”

We’re here for that, this, and all the above. Cant wait to hear “Skinny Skinny” tonight and currently pre-saving Superbloom, and you can do the same here.
