It was a collaboration that seemingly came out of nowhere, but was enough to bring a superstar artist out of retirement.

At the age of 80, Tina Turner stepped out of retirement for a collaboration with the 28-year-old star DJ and producer Kygo.

The duo released a brand-new version of Turner’s 1984 smash hit “What’s Love Got to Do with It.”

Earlier in the week, Kygo teased the news on Instagram writing “Can’t believe I’m releasing a collab with @tinaturner this Friday! ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ is one of my all time favorite songs, and it feels surreal to get the opportunity to work with such a legendary artist! Can’t wait for you all to hear.”

Throughout the week, Kygo was sharing classic clips of old Turner performance videos on his Instagram account.

Turner’s last album came in 1999 when she released Twenty Four Seven. The ensuing tour was one of her most successful to date as she grossed over $100 million in total. At a July 2000 concert in Zurich, Switzerland, Turner revealed that she would be retiring.

Although she announced retirement in 2000, she came back for a lengthy 50th anniversary world tour in 2008 and 2009. Her last concert was on May 5, 2009 at the Sheffield Arena in Sheffield, England.

“What’s Love Got To Do with It” isn’t Kygo’s first foray into remixing a classic track. Last summer, he dropped a cover of Whitney Houston’s cover of Steve Winwood’s song “Higher Love.”

“I was trying to make it sound like something that she would’ve done, but also something that’s my style,” he said at the time.
