Brothers Rocky and Ross Lynch have taken a do it yourself approach when it comes to releasing music as THE DRIVER ERA. Their latest single, “Places,” proves it can be done anytime, anywhere.
Rocky got the idea for THE DRIVER ERA’s new single “Places” while he was in the car on the way to see his girlfriend. "It's weird because I typically write songs about past relationships and experiences," he said in a statement. "But this time, it was about a current relationship... it was a really weird feeling."
In an interview with RADIO.COM’s Kevan Kenney, Rocky revealed the chorus you’ve heard in “Places” was almost completely different.
“I had a different chorus at one point,” he said.
“I sent it to our manager with a different chorus. Then I was in Vancouver with Ross and I was listening to it and knew that it wasn’t right.”
Rocky played the alternate chorus for us and honestly, it still sounded amazing. He had a reason for putting it aside though, a belief that he and his brother live by in their music.
“The reason why I didn’t like that other hook was because it was forced, it was forced. That’s what we’re really bad at, we’re really bad at being like, 'let’s just wrap up this song and throw this and that,'” Rocky said.
Ross echoed that statement saying they aim to stay honest with their music and sometimes struggle with fleshing out ideas.
Ross did confirm the “Places” music video will be coming next week. What will it entail? Well, Ross had a pretty big smile on his face when he was describing the concept.
“It’s like the strangest meeting of your girlfriend’s parents and what unfolds after that,” he said.
