Shawn Mendes is pulling back the curtain and revealing his creative process with a series of cryptic social posts teasing a new single, “Wonder.”
“WHAT IS #WONDER,” he tweeted and pinned early Wednesday morning. The artist also changed his Twitter and Instagram avatars to pure white.
Soon after the “Señorita” singer posted a 90-second teaser video, giving fans an ornate panoramic tour of his shambled urban apartment. The lens rests on Mendes laying on a mattress below a piano, working the keys to existential lyrics:
“You have a million different faces that can never understand.
You’ve been a million different places, so give yourself a chance to get lost in wonderland.”
As light pours into the dark apartment, the viewers follows a pair of birds on a deep sea beach journey into black.
This was only the tip of the pop star’s tease. Mendes shared the album’s official website that gives fans a further panoramic view of his sallow apartment.
The single “Wonder” is due out October 2, with the album arriving on December 4, according to Mendes.
Mendes’ girlfriend Camila Cabello shared the video on Instagram with a heartfelt caption. “The world could use some magic, beauty, and Wonder always, but especially right now. @shawnmendes what a gorgeous gift to the world,” she says.
“He’s crafted this album with every last bit of his soul, his spirit, and his essence with the purest of intentions. My love, I’m so proud of the person you are and I’m so excited for people to see and hear your heart. ❤️”
The power pop couple continue blazing a musical trail in 2020. Their music video for "Señorita” reached over one billion views back in April. Mendes now has three different music videos in the billion views club including "Treat You Better" and "Stitches.”
