With songs like “Welcome to the Jungle,” it’s likely Guns N’ Roses aren’t top of mind when you think of potential children’s authors. However, that’s exactly what the band will be doing.
Guns N’ Roses have teamed up with author James Patterson to create a children’s picture book called Sweet Child O’ Mine. The book is based on their song of the same name taking its narrative from the lyrics. The main characters in the story are Maya and Natalia Rose, the real life niece and daughter of Guns N’ Roses manager Fernando Lebeis who grew up touring with the band.
"As a longtime fan of Guns N' Roses, I'm thrilled to partner with the band in bringing their famed hit song to life on the page," Patterson said in a statement.
You can pick up Sweet Child O’ Mine as a physical copy and an e-book on September 1st.
While Guns N’ Roses massive North American Tour has been put on hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the band is working on new material.
Bassist Duff McKagan’s wife Susan Holmes McKagan recently spoke about the progress the band is making on a new record.
“I will say GN’R have been working fastidiously on killer new stuff. I can’t say much, but I’ve heard bits and bobs and it’s pretty epic,” she said.
Guns N’ Roses last released an album in 2008 with Chinese Democracy, but you have to go all the way back to 1991’s Use Your Illusion II to find an album of original material featuring Slash and Duff McKagan.
