When the mythic Guns N’ Roses album Chinese Democracy was finally released in 2008, it missed contributions from Slash and Duff McKagan who were not members of the band at the time.
You have to go all the way back to 1993’s “The Spaghetti Incident?” to find their participation in a Guns N’ Roses record and back to 1991’s Use Your Illusion II for an album of original material.
That could all change soon.
Bassist Duff McKagan’s wife Susan Holmes McKagan appeared on the latest episode of the “Appetite for Distortion” podcast and gave an exciting update on what the Guns N’ Roses is working on.
“I will say GN’R have been working fastidiously on killer new stuff,” she said.
“I can’t say much, but I’ve heard bits and bobs and it’s pretty epic. I do wanna spread the good news, but not detailed news, I guess.”
This echoes recent comments made by Slash to Guitar.com indicating the band is working on new material.
“Stuff is happening, but there are no specifics. More than anything, it’s because of the nature of the industry right now… I mean there’s material and there’s recording and there’s s*** going on, but we’re not really sure what we’re doing with it right now.”
Although COVID-19 has changed plans, the band had scheduled a lengthy North American tour to take place this summer. It remains to be seen whether or not new material would have been included or promoted during this trek.
