Meet the Death Metal Singer That Taught Jason Momoa How to Scream

The star found special inspiration for his role in ‘SEE’

Jason Momoa is out of the water and back on the horse, protecting his family and maybe even civilization in the new Apple TV show SEE.

To make sure he got his war cry right for the new show and didn’t slip into his old Dothraki ways, Momoa called in a specialist to get the scream just right. Oliver Rae Aleron Peters, also known as Oli Peters from the death metal band Archspire, helped Momoa get the growl down to lead the way into battle.

“Jason has such an interest in music and has done aggressive acting scenes before, so he was a quick learner for this,” Peters says in an interview with IndieWire. “We spent time getting him familiar with what the vocal style is and were messaging back and forth while Archspire was on tour.”

Momoa was already a noted metal fan, and the Archspire inclusion just seals it. The Aquaman actor has previously referred to bands like Slayer and Anthrax as his idols, and has reportedly taken inspiration from Black Sabbath and Tool for different roles.

As a thank you for his help, Momoa invited Peters and Archspire drummer Spencer Prewett to be a part of the show. “When we hung out on sets, in between takes I’d come over to him and we’d go over the lines together,” Oli adds of the experience during filming. “Being on a big-budget TV set was a trip, and Jason putting us in speaks to the creative side of what he does. He has this crazy reputation and status, but he’s just a fun metal dude.”
