Smile for Eddie Van Halen! A fan at a Tool concert did exactly that, but what he didn’t know was who was holding the phone.
Eddie was one of the thousands of people in L.A. who traveled to Staples Center this week to watch one of hard rock’s most intriguing bands. After Tool played their final note and the lights came on, a fan asked his fellow concertgoer to take his picture with the stage in the background.
We know this because Wolfgang Van Halen, son of Eddie, posted a picture of the picture-taking moment on Twitter. It shows his legendary dad doing as he was asked, but according to Wolf, the fan had no idea who he was.
To be fair, Eddie is a little less recognizable than he was in his long-hair days and the fan appeared to be on the younger side.
The picture is also noteworthy because it further proves that Eddie is living life despite flying to Germany from time to time for throat cancer treatment. A source told TMZ earlier this month the 64-year-old has been in that mode for five years.
Van Halen fans are wondering when and if they can expect to see him back on-stage. Speculation about a summer ’19 tour never materialized and now frontman David Lee Roth is set for a Vegas residency.
Tool, meanwhile, will be on the road through the end of November as they support one of the most talked about and successful rock albums of the year – Fear Inoculum.
