An episode of “Golden Girls” that includes two characters in blackface has been pulled from Hulu.
The episode, “Mixed Blessings,” first aired in 1988 as episode 23 of season, reports Variety.
In the episode, Rose (Betty White) and Blanche (Rue McClanahan) wear a new mud face treatment they are testing out as they greet the family of Lorraine (Rosalind Cash), the black woman that Michael (Scott Jacoby), the son of Dorothy (Beatrice Arthur), plans to marry.
Hulu did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Variety.
The streaming platform’s removal of the "Mixed Blessings" comes at a time when the entertainment industry, as well as countless companies, are reappraising their projects and brands to encourage racial inclusion following widespread protests in response to the death of George Floyd.
Earlier this week, NBCUniversal removed four episodes of “30 Rock” that include characters in blackface from streaming services and syndication.
On Wednesday, “Gone With the Wind” returned to HBO Max with two additional videos that address historical context after being pulled by WarnerMedia two weeks earlier for its "racist depictions."
