You no longer have to wonder what Kelly Clarkson would sound like covering Mr. Rogers’ theme song “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”
The singer, known as "the cover queen," delivered a beautiful rendition of the theme song made popular by the children’s television program, “Mister Rogers Neighborhood."
The cover was part of a fan-favorite segment on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” titled “Kellyoke,” where she performs a cover of a song she either loves or one that is tied to a guest on her show that day.
Since Tom Hanks, the actor portraying Rogers in the biopic “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” was her guest on the show, it was especially fitting.
Clarkson's soulful and bluesy twist on the classic would have made even Mr. Rogers proud.
The singer was accompanied by a three-piece band, who all donned red sweaters in honor of the Pittsburgh television personality.
The lights were dimmed to a golden hue, and behind Clarkson, the silhouette of a dancer acting out Rogers’ signature shoe and sweater change from the PBS series evoked a deeper sense of nostalgia.
The impeccably choreographed 2-minute piece surely left Mister Rogers fans teary-eyed and brought many in the audience, including those watching at home, back to their childhood.
“A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” is in theaters now.
It tells the story of how Rogers’ kindness and empathy changed one journalist’s life for the better.
