What’s the way to Kate Middleton’s heart? A home-cooked meal made by Prince William.
During an appearance on the UK holiday special, “A Berry Royal Christmas,” alongside baking expert Mary Berry, Kate revealed that back in the day, William used to cook for her quite often.
“He sometimes does, actually. He’s very good at breakfast. In our university days he used to cook all sorts of meals. I think that’s when he was trying to impress me, Mary,” Kate jokingly said adding that he would make things like “bolognese sauce.”
William quipped, "I can do tea, Mary, but not cooking. Catherine is definitely the one who cooks, not me."
The royal couple met in 2001 during their freshmen year at the University of St. Andrews.
The duo became “foodies” frequenting local pubs like Ma Bells, West Port, and Pizza Express, according to People.
Since then, they’ve been a little preoccupied with royal duties and raising their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, but William said they make time to cook during the holiday season.
“We are talking about doing mince pies this year. I love mince pies. If the children want to cook mince pies then I’m happy to do that.”
Their love of food has influenced their children’s appetites.
In the special, Kate described that the family has a green thumb and loves getting their hands dirty when growing their own vegetables like “carrots, beans, and beetroot,” the latter, she pointed out, is Louis’s favorite.
But while the 1-year-old loves his daily dose of leafy veggies, 4-year-old Princess Charlotte prefers a starchy vegetable in her diet.
“Charlotte obviously likes her Charlotte potatoes,” Kate said with a smile.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also indulged their sweet-tooth as they faced-off in a baking segment where they were tasked with making roulade.
Before the bake-off, William said he’d made “hundreds” of roulades adding, “I'm going to write a book about roulades and it'll be a bestseller.”
Alas, he eventually admitted this was his first time making the rolled cake confection.
Kate, however, admitted that she loves to bake birthday cakes from scratch despite sometimes flubbing the measurements.
“I love making the cake,” the royal mom shared. “It’s become a bit of a tradition that I stay up ’til midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing and I make far too much. But I love it.”
