Shannen Doherty is setting the record straight on her bad-girl reputation during her days on Beverly Hills, 90210 in the ‘90s.
While the actress was dogged with rumors of infighting with some of her castmates such as Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling, Doherty says most of the alleged turmoil stemmed from miscommunication.
“Somebody had a problem with me being late, but perhaps they didn’t know I was late because my dad was in the hospital, or maybe because I was in a horrible marriage,” the 47-year-old explained to People. “I didn’t share, or I wasn’t asked. I’m not saying it was all a misunderstanding, but a large portion of it was a misunderstanding.”
Doherty wound up leaving the series in 1994 after the fourth season with rumors of bad blood between her and the cast haunting her until recently.
Now that she’s once again working with Garth, Spelling, Jason Priestley, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, and Brian Austin Green on “BH90210,” the group has been able to clear the air.
“I mentioned what I was personally going through back then and some of the cast members went, ‘Oh my God, what?’” Doherty added. “It was very interesting having those conversations, not just about me but about what they were going through, too. And really understanding each other this time around as adults.”
While the original cast has put their bygones behind, they all still feel the loss of their beloved late co-star Luke Perry.
The series paid tribute to Perry in the season premiere of the reboot, but Doherty says working without him felt like a jigsaw puzzle because "one of the most important parts of the puzzle was gone.”
“BH90210” airs Wednesdays at 9pm on Fox.
