Vanna White Survives 'Awkward' First Night as 'Wheel of Fortune' Host

The show must go on! Vanna White took a spin at a new gig for the first time. For years, White has been the friendly face revealing letters on “Wheel of Fortune,” but last night marked her first foray into the world of hosting the show.

With Pat Sajak out and recovering from emergency surgery, White stepped in as host. Luckily, Minnie Mouse stepped in to fill White’s shoes as the leader of the puzzleboard. “Wheel of Fortune” tweeted about the momentous occasion.

“For the first time in show history, @TheVannaWhite steps in as host at the Wheel, while our friend Minnie Mouse helps out at the puzzleboard!,” the tweet reads.

White herself chimed in on Twitter, sharing a photo of herself in front of the famous wheel and writing, “Tonight’s my first night of hosting Wheel! I’m excited and nervous! Stay tuned!”

According to the New York Times, White recounts being asked to fill in for Sajak. “I’ve never even thought of that in 37 years. And to be asked almost on the spot, ‘How do you feel about hosting the show?’ Like, what!?,” she said.

While White was largely well-received as the temporary host of the show, some were disappointed with how things went down.

“I’m awkward, but not Vanna White hosting Wheel of Fortune, awkward,” one user tweets.

Another user chimes in, “Vanna White is hosting Wheel of Fortune this week and I am legitimately so uncomfortable. She’s so awkward as a host.”

Still, fans came through with an outpouring of support for the temporary host, eager to see what the rest of the week will bring.
