As numerous events postpone until 2021, the American Music Awards (AMAs) just revealed they will be hosting their ceremony in 2020.
Dick Clark Productions made the announcement today that the 2020 American Music Awards will take place on Sunday, November 22. The AMAs will air on ABC beginning at 8 PM ET. “The broadcast will bring fans together with surprising musical performances and celebrate the artists who make it happen,” a statement on their website read.
Since 2007, the show has been telecast in Los Angeles at the Microsoft Theater. No venue was specified in the announcement of the 2020 show, but the release notes “additional details regarding production of the show will be announced at a later date.”
The AMAs honor artists across genres including Pop/Rock, Alternative Rock, Country, Rap/Hip-Hop, Soul/R&B, Adult Contemporary, Contemporary Inspirational, Latin, EDM, and Soundtrack. Additionally, the award show showcases New Artist of the Year, Collaboration of the Year, Video of the Year, Favorite Song, and Artist of the Year.
Last year’s show delivered ABC’s biggest entertainment audience in adults 18-49 on any Sunday night since The Oscars with 6.7 million viewers.
Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish ruled the 2019 AMAs with Swift taking home six awards and Eilish taking home two awards and delivering a fiery performance. BTS and Khalid also won big at the 2019 AMAs taking home three awards each.
