Is Labor Day fast approaching and you've got nothing lined up? Don't freak out. Whether funds are too tight for a weekend getaway, you dropped the ball on planning anything, or you're playing it safe because of the pandemic, you'd be surprised just how many options you have before you.

Remember: If you're staying in town this Labor Day, you're not missing out. These are six last-minute staycation ideas that will make for an awesome Labor Day weekend.

Hit the Beach

Labor Day could be your last opportunity of the year to get in the water. If you find yourself with nothing specific planned for this weekend, grab your trunks, fill up that cooler and head to the nearest beach for a fun, affordable and people-filled day.

Have a Cookout

This one's been done before -- for a reason. Throwing a Labor Day barbecue might seem intimidating if you're unprepared, but it doesn't have to be an extravagant affair down to the coordinated cups and napkins. With a little extra preparation, you'll make the guests go crazy with these unique snack recipes. Fire up that grill, grab some meats and/or veggies, and invite friends and family over, asking them to bring some food and drinks.

Be One With Nature

Your unpreparedness for Labor Day weekend may be just the excuse you need to embark into nature. If you rarely get the chance to enjoy the calming effects of the great outdoors, find some stunning scenery nearby and go for a long walk, hike, or bike ride. Pick a mountain or river close to you that you haven't have a chance to see, or even a modest hiking trail. Bring some food and you can double up the rest on your outing as a scenic picnic.

Be a City Boy (or Girl)

If you're not much of an outdoorsy type, take advantage of the day off to explore your city. It's easy to forget all that your town has to offer when you are working most days. Many cities are ripe with public and free events, fairs and concerts on Labor Day weekend — just make sure to do some research and check that whatever event you're thinking about will be outside and socially distanced. Even if you want to dodge the big crowds, take the pressure off yourself and go wandering till you stumble on a public site you've never seen.

Play a game

It doesn't take much to get a fun game going in the backyard. Get out the badminton set, bust out the cornhole, or chase the kids around with water toys. Can be great if you're throwing a cookout or just want to get active with the fam.

Relax and Do Nothing

We mean this in the best way possible. Time is our most limited and valuable commodity, so take advantage of it on this rare day off. Sleep in as late as you want, crack open that book you've been meaning to start, tidy some things up around the house. Don't overextend yourself trying to think of something incredible to do. Instead focus on those little things you always tell yourself you would do if you had more time.
