A terminally ill fan of “Halloween” died minutes after having his wedding officiated by the film’s star, Jamie Lee Curtis.
Exactly three years later, on Halloween, he was diagnosed with Stage IV esophageal cancer.
As his condition worsened, the couple moved forward with wedding plans.
In the meantime, the owner of the South Carolina movie theater where Woodle worked reached out to “Halloween Kills” director David Gordon Green to let him know about the 29-year-old’s devout admiration for the franchise. Through this connection, Curtis became involved.
“They said that a young man who works there named Anthony Woodle, very young and beautiful guy, was diagnosed with cancer and didn’t have long to live,” the "Knives Out" actress said during an appearance on "The Talk."
Curtis and Woodle chatted on the phone and after he discussed his wedding plans, the actress offered to officiate the ceremony.
“And it turned out that I also offered to marry him because I am an officiant,” added Curtis.
The big day was set for September 13th.
On the morning of the wedding, Woodle’s condition took a drastic turn and a hospice nurse was called to make him more comfortable, the Post and Courier noted.
At around 10:30 pm, Curtis began the ceremony over Zoom as Woodle laid unconscious in his bed while holding hands with Emilee.
“Anthony and Emilee, all anyone is promised is this moment,” Curtis said.
“We live and we love in this moment. May the blessings of God rest upon you, may his peace abide with you, may her spirit illuminate your heart now, in this moment. With the power vested in me by the internet, it is my great pleasure to tell you that you are now married people.”
Woodle died less than an hour later at 11:17 pm.
“It turned out to be something obviously incredibly moving and also very life-affirming,” Curtis told the daytime talk show.
Prior to his death, Woodle and Emilee were given a private screening of “Halloween Kills,” which is set to be released in 2021.
“That was the most I’ve seen him smile — during and after the movie,” Emilee shared.
