A CATastrophe was averted when officers in Troy, Mich., rescued a kitten stuck inside a car engine with the help of Good Samaritans who heard her mewling cries of distress and swung into action.

After 45 minutes of cajoling, officers and some helpful citizens were able to get her to safety.

She spent the night at the home of an officer and then went to Tigerlily Rescue, where she'll be checked out and eventually available for adoption.

"Thank you to the kind officer for keeping this adorable baby safe until we could find a foster home for her this evening," Tigerlily wrote on Facebook. " We have named her Olive and she will get a vet checkup soon along with being spayed and vaccinated. She will be ready for adoption in about a month, just in time to find a loving home for the holidays."
