Amazon driver Monica Salinas is being celebrated for delivering a package with extra care and compassion for an immunocompromised child.
In a viral video, Salinas was captured praying outside the Idaho home of Raquel and Derek Pearson, whose eight-month-old son, Lucas, has a heart condition.
Doctors told the Pearsons that Lucas is more prone to respiratory distress if he were to contract coronavirus, reported KTVB.
Since the onset of the pandemic, the Pearsons have avoided going outside to protect their son. They rely on delivery orders to get all of the family’s essentials.
As a literal sign of gratitude, the Pearsons left a note on their door thanking delivery drivers for bringing Lucas his food and medical supplies.
While awaiting for a package one day, Raquel noticed footage on her RING doorbell camera of Salinas praying.
"I noticed that she was standing there, and I didn't really realize what she was doing until I saw her doing the sign of the cross. I was like 'Oh my gosh, she was praying,'" Raquel told the outlet. "I kind of choked up a bit."
Salinas’ kind gesture touched them so much that they shared the video to a local Facebook group and it soon went viral.
People in the group were determined to figure out the identity of the Amazon driver and eventually identified the good Samaritan as Salinas.
While she was shocked by the reaction to her actions, Salinas was especially moved by the Pearsons’ situation.
“I just stopped to do what my heart told me to do, to say a prayer for the baby and for the parents, because that's got to be very painful for all of them to see their baby hurt and struggle," Salinas said. "I just prayed that they can make it through another day, one day at a time.”
While they haven’t met, the Pearsons were adamant of how much Salinas’ positive vibes and good will meant to them.
"It's really powerful and we appreciate any positive energy that is sent to our family right now," said Derek Pearson. "So thank you so much, the gesture is really appreciated by myself and my family."
