An unfaithful husband has tested positive for coronavirus after secretly traveling to Italy for his extramarital affair.
The UK man, who has not been identified, lied to his unsuspecting wife by telling her he was going on a business trip within the country, reported the Sun.
Upon returning home from his romp, the late-30s man started feeling symptoms, went to the hospital and tests confirmed he was infected with COVID-19, according to the outlet.
The man’s wife is said to be in isolation at the couple’s home in northern England and allegedly has no clue how he contracted the virus.
Described as “well-heeled with a high-flying job,” the adulterer recounted the details of how he got infected to medical professionals, but would not reveal the identity of his mistress.
“This patient is the talk of public health officials,” a source told the British newspaper. "His case would be funny if it wasn't quite so serious.”
“He thought he had the perfect alibi to carry out his affair, but hadn’t reckoned on the coronavirus meltdown,” the source added.
“The patient is just relieved he got home before flights were canceled — that would have taken some explaining. He’s in a blind panic, but more about his adultery being exposed rather than his health.”
According to the report, the man is expected to survive the outbreak. The health status of his marriage is to be determined.
It is also unclear if the mistress is aware of her lover's diagnosis or if she has been tested.
Italy has been the country hardest hit by the spread of coronavirus, outside of mainland China. The European nation has over 35,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with nearly 3000 deaths, according to the BBC.
