Lucky for locals and visitors alike, the Heat play in one of the buzziest areas in the country. Downtown Miami wedges in countless restaurants, clubs and shops against Biscayne Bay. A handful of world class hotels call the neighborhood home as well, and many also have killer views of Miami Beach and the ocean beyond. Here are a few of our favorite places to stay the night after attending a Heat game or event at American Airlines Arena.
The best hotel within spitting distance of AA Arena (if you can spit a third of a mile), The Gabriel is a member of Hilton’s high-end Curio Collection, so the rooms are a good deal fancier than your standard Hampton Inn. That means luxury accomodations with floor-to-ceiling windows and views of the ocean, high-end cocktails served by the illuminated pool and a serious hotel restaurant where you can fuel up for the game.

EAST is worth the short walk across the Miami River from downtown. The import from East Asia rises up from the Brickell City Centre complex. Inside you’ll find luxe rooms (outfitted with balconies overlooking the city or the sea) and world class service, as well as one of our favorite rooftop bars in all of Miami.

Is there anything more Miami than staying in a hotel where Pitbull shot the video for “Hotel Room Service”? Amenities are appropriately over the top, like the option to arrive by yacht in the private marina, a serious spa and a shop for expensive wrist watches, cigars and spirits. If you need any additional indication of the ritzy perks, just check out Zuma, the modern Japanese restaurant at the hotel that has picked up all sorts of accolades.

Just down the shore from American Airlines Arena, the InterContinental sits on a pristine corner of Biscayne Bay. With a triple threat of dining options all leaning toward pan-Latin flavors (including one of our fave restaurants to pregame a Heat game), the InterContinental will easily fill your down time before or after your visit to AA Arena. Dance the night away during a salsa night at the rooftop pool bar, or hit the spa to work off the stress of a heavy defeat on the court.

The Mandarin Oriental sits on Brickell Key, a small island off Brickell proper, where it feels like its own private kingdom. Watch out though. With plush beds, beauty treatments and celebrity hotel-mates, you may forget to leave the hotel in time for the game.
