The program included an invocation from Father Leo J. O’Donovan, the Pledge of Allegiance by Andrea Hall, a performance of the National Anthem by Lady Gaga, a poetry reading by Amanda Gorman, and a musical performance by Jennifer Lopez.

The day was also a historic day as Harris, the former California senator, was sworn in as the first African American and South Asian American female vice president.

Following the main inaugural ceremony, Biden, Harris and former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton laid a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery.

The new president also dove into official duties on the celebratory day, signing executive orders that aimed to reverse policies instated by Trump during his term, reports CBS News. The actions made changes to the federal COVID-19 response, as well as the former administrations actions on environment, immigration, the U.S. census, and regulatory changes.
