It’s not every day you nail a nearly perfect proposal.
Boston filmmaker Lee Loechler hacked his girlfriend’s favorite movie, seemingly inserting the two of them into the end of “Sleeping Beauty.” The stunt even broke the fourth wall, showing the “prince” in the feature tossing the real-life ring to Loechler in real time.
“It’s not every day you get to propose to your High School sweetheart,” Loechler wrote on YouTube. “For the past six months, I’ve been working with an illustrator to animate my girlfriend and myself into her favorite movie, Sleeping Beauty.”
He ended the post, “On 12/30/19 I popped the question in a theater filled with our frinds and family.
The video shows a split screen of the animated Loechler and his girlfriend as well as a clip of Loechler’s girlfriend reacting to finally realizing what was going on.
So how did he pull it off? Turns out, Loechler rented out the Coolidge Screening Room in Brookline, Massachusetts. Then, he filled the room with not only their friends and family, but strangers from Reddit as well, so as to throw off his unsuspecting girlfriend further, Indiewire reports.
The video of the proposal was shared via email by the Art House Convergence on Thursday. The email read, "He went to great lengths to make this seem like a real screening, even making fake movie tickets (so the girlfriend actually unwittingly invited HIM to her own proposal)."
Loechler also took to Instagram to announce the proposal, saying, “The only thing better than seeing the smartest person I know completely dumbfounded was knowing we'd get to live happily ever after together.”
The proposal has gone viral on the Internet, pleasing many Redditors and YouTubers alike.
