Barbie is going for the gold.
Mattel has launched a new line of Barbie dolls in honor of the upcoming 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
The five dolls will represent each of the five new sports that are being added to this year’s games: skateboarding, baseball/softball, sport climbing, surfing and karate.
“This international product line, rolling out this spring, highlights inclusivity and innovation, with toys reflecting the five new sports added to the Olympic program in Tokyo,” the company said in a statement. “All to inspire a new generation of athletes and fans around the world.”
The dolls come decked out in the appropriate outfits to compete in the respective sport. The surfer comes with a Tokyo 2020 branded surfboard and wetsuit, while the sport climber has rope, harness and rock climbing shoes. And the skateboarder is ready to reach new heights with a pink skateboard and matching helmet and wrist guards.
In addition, each doll also has a Tokyo 2020 jacket and plastic replicas of gold medals to adorn over the figurine’s neck.
While there’s no word on how much each doll will cost, all five will become available at retailers around the world later this spring.
To further celebrate the summer games, Mattel is also releasing a line of Hot Wheels cars to represent different sports from the first Games in Athens to the five being introduced this year. Card fans will also get in on the action as there's a special edition UNO deck in honor of this year's Olympic mascot, reported "Good Morning America."
The Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics are set to begin on July 24th and run through to August 9th.
