McDonald’s has upgraded their iconic Shamrock Shake.
To further celebrate the 50th anniversary of its legendary green milkshake, the fast food chain is auctioning off a diamond-encrusted 18-karat gold cup, entitled the Golden Shamrock Shake.
The blinged-out canister features 50 green emeralds and white diamonds to represent the frothy treat’s whipped cream topping and 50 yellow diamonds to symbolize Mickey D’s infamous Golden Arches.
The lavish cup is allegedly worth upwards of $90K and took jewelers 140 hours to make.
To get your hands on the indulgent item, McDonald’s is launching a 10-day eBay auction that goes until 5 am ET on March 6th, with opening bids starting at $1. As of Tuesday night, the bids had already ballooned to $30K.
All proceeds from the winning bid will go towards the chain’s Ronald McDonald House Charities, which support the health and well-being of children and their families.
“Tradition calls for a 50th anniversary to be celebrated with gold, so we wanted to create an item that not only represented this milestone, but our delicious Shamrock Shake,” the company said in a statement.
“We invite all our fans to join us in this celebration as we cheers to 50 delicious years with the Golden Shamrock Shake and help raise funds for RMHC and its incredible cause.”
If you don’t have thousands of dollars to bid, fans who purchase a Shamrock Shake or an Oreo Shamrock McFlurry using McDonald’s mobile app will be automatically entered into the sweepstakes.
The Shamrock Shake was initially created in 1967 by a McDonald’s owner in Connecticut to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
In 1970, the ice cream delicacy was rolled out to select locations across the country and quickly became an overnight fan favorite.
