There’s a new travel trend going around, and it involves ditching your friends for a different vacation buddy – your phone.
According to Travel + Leisure, the “mobilemoon” is a vacation trend that’s sort of like a “solomoon” but with way more Instagrams involved. Instead of going on a solo trip and pressuring yourself not to check your phone too often, you let your phone be a part of the vacation.
The term comes from Expedia, who conducted a recent survey which proved that more people would rather travel with their phones than with a buddy. Thus, the mobilemoon was born.
And while it may seem like just an excuse to take a ton of selfies and show off your travels to the social media world, having your phone with you can actually prove beneficial for a few reasons.
For starters, there are tons of apps and resources at your fingertips that you wouldn’t be able to get on your solo trip without your trusty phone by your side or in your pocket. Not to mention, there’s all of the apps available that can actually help you connect with people while you’re in an unfamiliar place.
While it’s fun to consider the “mobilemoon” something of a new trend, there’s a reality we have to face here – solo travel in 2019 probably means traveling with your phone in hand.
