President Donald Trump continued his early start on the 2020 campaign on Friday with a rally in Lake Charles, Louisiana. It was the second consecutive day the president held a rally after conducting one in Minneapolis on Thursday.
Here is what happened at Trump’s latest rally:
Trump continued to not pull any punches when talking about the ongoing impeachment inquiry by House Democrats over his attempt to get the Ukranian president to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden’s son. As he recently did in a tweet, Trump referred to the inquiry as “bulls--t.”
“The radical Democrats’ policies are crazy. Their politicians are corrupt. Their candidates are terrible,” he said to thousands of supporters in attendance. “And they know they can’t win on Election Day so they’re pursuing an illegal, invalid and unconstitutional bulls--t impeachment.”
Pelosi Main Target
Prior to Trump’s rally on Friday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi fired back at Trump for his suggestion a day earlier that Biden was “only a good vice president because he understood how to kiss Barack Obama’s a--.” Pelosi called the president “disgraceful.” Trump took the time on Friday to center his attacks on Pelosi.
“She hates the country,” he said. “Nancy Pelosi hates the United States of America, because she wouldn’t be doing [an impeachment].”
‘Fire Your Governor’
Part of Trump’s rally was to also promote two Republican candidates running against Louisiana’s Democratic governor, John Bel Edwards. Trump attacked Edwards, a centrist Democrat, as someone who would “drop the Second Amendment" and told the crowd to send the “radical Democrat establishment a clear message.”
“You are going to fire your Democratic governor,” he said. “He’s done a lousy job.”
Biden and the Media
As he did on Friday, Trump continued his attacks against Biden and the former vice president's son, Hunter, in Louisiana. He continued to accuse Hunter of corruption in Ukraine and then began to blame the media for considering the corruption claims to be unsubstantiated.
Trump said if any of his children were in a similar situation, the media would react differently.
“They would be saying, where’s the nearest cell?” Trump said.
Bernie Sanders Comments
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is still recovering from a heart attack, and on Thursday he posted a video swinging a baseball bat to show that he was feeling better. Trump took time at his rally on Friday to critique Sanders’ video.
“Bernie was hitting a baseball today to show how strong he was. It just wasn’t a lot of bat head speed,” Trump said.
He continued: “Bernie…get better fast. That’s the only time I’ve ever said anything good about him.”
