Your favorite green milkshake is almost ready for its annual closeup.
McDonald’s has announced their iconic Shamrock Shake will return to restaurants nationwide on February 19th.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the frothy treat and to celebrate the fast-food chain is also launching the new OREO Shamrock McFlurry for a limited time.
“We’re excited to serve up a new way to experience the one-of-a-kind Shamrock flavor in our new OREO Shamrock McFlurry,” the company said in a statement. “Our chefs worked to get the perfect balance of OREO cookies and mint for this new delicious dessert. We can’t wait for customers to get a taste this spring.”
The Shamrock Shake will once again feature vanilla ice cream, its classic Shamrock Shake minty syrup and whipped topping.
While the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry offers a “twist” on the iconic original by blending cookie pieces throughout the decadent dessert.
The Shamrock Shake was initially created in 1967 by a McDonald’s owner in Connecticut to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
In 1970, the ice cream delicacy was rolled out to select locations across the country and became an overnight fan favorite.
The treat continues to be a big hit as many customers expressed their delight with the news of its return.
“#ShamrockShakeSZN is the best time of the year!!!!! Too Excited, “ commented one fan.
“Can’t you just keep it on the menu forever please,” added another.
“Y’all are putting Oreos in it now? I’m dead I need some now,” wrote a third in anticipation of the new Oreo Shamrock McFlurry.
Fans should also expect some more surprises as McDonald’s plans to unveil other ways to celebrate Shamrock Shake season in the coming weeks.
