Tito’s Vodka is doing their part to offer relief from the coronavirus pandemic and not just by giving you a good buzz.
The liquor brand, which previously advised fans not to use their vodka as hand sanitizer, has announced their distilleries are working on producing 24 tons of hand sanitizer to help fight the COVID-19 outbreak.
In the last several weeks, Purell and other brands of hand sanitizer have become virtually impossible to find as people have raided store shelves stocking up on disinfectant products.
After getting the go ahead from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade bureau, Tito’s disclosed they’ve begun “getting all the pieces in place” to make ethanol-based hand sanitizer.
"Currently, we are testing our formula, procuring necessary components of supplies and packaging, and preparing for production as we wait for the additional required ingredients to be delivered to the distillery,'' the company said in a statement.
"We have the ingredients and equipment on order to make an initial 24 tons of hand sanitizer over the next several weeks, and plan to make more from there as needed."
In addition, Tito’s will not charge anything for the product.
“We will be giving it away for free to our community and those most in need,” the company said.
The Austin-based liquor company included an image of the bottle with a branded label that reads “Hand Cleanser” and the warnings “For Hands Only” and “Do Not Drink.”
Tito's now joins other distilleries and alcohol brands like Pernod Ricard, which makes Jameson Whiskey and Absolut Vodka, who have since announced they would be producing hand sanitizer to address the shortage.
Earlier this month, Tito’s had to advise people not to use its vodka as hand sanitizer after people started to inquire if they could make their own disinfectant using their product.
"Per the CDC, hand sanitizer needs to contain at least 60% alcohol. Tito's Handmade Vodka is 40% alcohol, and therefore does not meet the current recommendation of the CDC,” the company said in a tweet.
So, just so we're clear, Tito's Vodka is for drinking and Tito's Hand Cleanser is for disinfecting.
