Walt Disney World is hoping 2021 will be the year they finally reopen their water parks.
The Orlando resort revealed tentative plans to reopen one of its two water parks in the early spring.
The “Know Before You Go” page on the company’s website has been updated to reflect the new plans.
Both Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon currently remain closed, but with government approvals, Disney plans to open one of these two water parks on March 7, 2021.
"While Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park remain closed at this time, pending government approvals, we currently plan to reopen one of the two Disney water parks on March 7, 2021," the statement reads.
The statement promises to “welcome back Guests and Cast Members” in a responsible way with a “plan focused on health and well-being.”
“We will provide more details on our phased reopening plan, including a decision on the specific water park that will be reopening first, at a later time. This reopening date may change and if it does, we will let Guests know what to expect in a future update,” it added.
While Disney’s water parks have been closed since the onset of the pandemic in mid-March, Universal Orlando’s Volcano Bay water park and SeaWorld Orlando’s Aquatica water park both reopened in June along with the theme parks, per the Orlando Sentinel.
Disney World opened its gates again on July 11 with numerous health and safety changes along with a reduced capacity. Face masks must be worn at the park, reservations are mandatory, and park hopping is no longer allowed.
Not all of the park's resorts have reopened, however.
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort delayed its opening from August 12 to October 4, while the Art of Animation Resort will reopen on November 1.
Disney's Beach Club Resort and Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, which were set to reopen on Aug. 24 and Oct. 1, respectively, “will remain closed until further notice.”
