Fans and trolls alike flood the comments section when Kelly Ripa calls husband Mark Consuelos “daddy” on social media. But it turns out, she’s not the one who started the nickname. She’s just the one that made it stick.
Many have the misconception that Consuelos’ nickname comes from his role on “Riverdale,” but Ripa is setting the record straight – that’s not the case. In an interview with Good Housekeeping, Ripa reveals the truth.
“I’m all about daddy. I like a daddy,” she explains. “You know how my husband got his nickname? It’s not from ‘Riverdale.’” She goes on to explain that the nickname has been a longstanding moniker for a handful of years.
“Andy Cohen gave my husband the nickname ‘daddy’ about 15 years ago,” she explains. “Mark was out of town, he was shooting a movie somewhere, and Andy was visiting. Mark said, ‘Andy, I need you to lock up the house and make sure you set the alarm because Kelly always forgets.’ And he’s like, ‘Okay, daddy.’”
She continues, “From that moment on, Mark became daddy, and everybody calls him daddy. He is a daddy to us all.”
Ripa has taken to Instagram several times with the nickname, even riling up her own daughter, Lola Consuelos, from being too flirty with her man for the masses. “Absolutely repulsive,” Consuelos commented after her parents exchanged some innuendos on Ripa’s Instagram page.
