Efren began radio while still in high school (1984) as a volunteer at a local bilingual public radio station in Salinas, California in the heart of Steinbeck Country. His public radio experience allowed him to follow a career path at several commercial station entities. He has contributed as a playlist curator and content manager at various internet radio outlets.

FUN FACTS: Efren broke the diversity barrier by becoming the first latino music director at a Top 40 Monterey County station which earned him a Gavin Convention “Medium Market Music Director of the Year” nomination.
Efren was the first in-store DJ & announcer to work at Virgin Megastore (San Francisco location) back when they opened & helped push sales on various genres of music and other merchandise in-store (books, video, etc.)
Efren was the first latino to break the color barrier as a radio announcer at heritage Adult Contemporary station in San Francisco.
Efren was the first latino to work at Radio One’s Adult Urban station KRBV (V-100) in Los Angeles.
Efren was the first latino at the relaunched WKTU (103.5 The “New KTU) to hold down the #1 rated daypart in three key demographics during his midday on-air show in New York.
