A Plano man is recovering after getting shot by his own dog.

Plano police posted a warning to other gun owners on social media saying a man was carrying his handgun in his waistband when he picked up his dog.

Officials say when he picked up his dog, the animal's paw somehow caught on the trigger, discharging a round into and through the man's thigh.

The wounded man was able to drive himself to the hospital to get checked out - and it seems like he's going to be okay.

"If you have a License to Carry, we ask for your safety and the safety of others, be responsible" said police.
