Ah 1990’s pop culture, a period of time that with the benefit of nostalgia can be looked at with part cringe and part awe. We mean all this in the best possible way. After all, “90’s pop stars where are they now” is one of the best games you can play with your friend group.

Listen to your favorite Pop music now on RADIO.COM.

While some of the biggest pop stars of the 90’s like Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, and Justin Timberlake remain incredibly popular and active, others have moved on forging a new path in life.

Some 90’s pop stars have continued on with music. Some have moved into other ventures. Nevertheless, here’s a list of 7 90’s pop stars and where they are now.

98 Degrees

One of the top boy bands in the 90’s pop scene, 98 Degrees had a quick rise to the top in their five years as a band. The group decided to go on a hiatus in 2003, a decision that lasted all the way until 2012 when they reformed. Since that time, 98 Degrees has returned to the scene with an album in 2013, a Christmas album in 2017, and several headlining tours including a recurring gig at Disney World.

Brandy

Brandy became involved in the entertainment industry at a young age signing a recording contract when she was just 14 years old. As one of the most prolific artists of the 90’s she only put out two albums in the decade, but both were massively successful. While she was still active in the entertainment world in the 2000s, she experienced a resurgence in the 2010s with an appearance on “Dancing with the Stars.” Brandy also made her Broadway debut in the musical “Chicago” in 2015.

Hanson

You couldn’t go anywhere in 1997 without hearing “MMMBop.” The Hanson brothers (not to be confused with the 1977 film “Slap Shot”) became an international sensation with their hit, but what happened next in their career is vastly interesting. The brothers left their label and went independent in the early 2000s after label executives rejected over 80 songs they wrote. Since that time they’ve released seven albums and embarked on numerous tours as they remain active to this day.

Aqua

You may not recognize the name, but you surely recognize the line “come on Barbie let’s go party.” The group behind “Barbie Girl” took the world by storm in the 90’s with their earworm. The group disbanded in 2001, but has had two short-lived reunions since then primarily performing in Europe.

Lou Bega

“Ladies and gentlemen, this is mambo number five.” When you heard those words come out of your speaker, you knew you were in for a good time. Since his worldwide hit, Bega’s popularity in America declined, but he continued to perform well in Europe as his three albums since then have all charted in various European countries. In 2019, Bega returned with his first song since 2013 creating a track inspired by the 1994 single “Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop).”

Eiffel 65

It’s pretty remarkable that a group who released their first album in the last year of the decade could be considered a group that defines the decade. That’s where we are with Eiffel 65 who turned the world blue with their hit single “Blue (Da Ba Dee).” The group lasted until 2005 when one of the members left and the other two opted to form a new duo. Eiffel 65 announced a reunion in 2010 and has mainly toured in Europe since that point.

Ace of Base

With a plethora of hits in the 90’s, the band is one of the most successful Swedish groups of all time. Since 2002, Ace of Base has only put out one studio album (in 2010) as original members Linn & Jenny Berggren ended up leaving the group in 2007 and 2009 respectively. Although they’ve never officially broken up, most activity surrounding the group since the early 2000’s has been the release of compilation albums.
