‘Tis the season for festive coffee flavors.
If you’re tired of peppermint and gingerbread, you’re in luck because the elves Dunkin’ have been busy working on the latest holiday flavor: Sugarplum Macchiato.
“Invite your taste buds to a winter wonderland filled with bright berry flavors, vanilla notes & espresso, all topped off with a sweet sugary finish. Grab one today & let us know how you’d describe it using #DunkinSugarplum,” the official Dunkin’ Twitter account tweeted.
The Sugarplum Macchiato joins the more traditional holiday beverage lineup that debuted in November.
The berry coffee can be ordered hot or iced. The cheerful drink offers hints of “blueberry, raspberry, blackberry, and plum, accented by notes of vanilla and rounded out with a sweet sugary finish for the ultimate winter delight,” per the official press release.
“The combination of Dunkin’s premium espresso, milk, and sugarplum flavor creates a whimsical, light-purple layered appearance for a beverage that is sure to start winter with a wow – and perhaps create a little festive FOMO as the highlight of holiday posts and photos,” the release added.
“Our Sugarplum Macchiato is a colorful twist on a well-known, but perhaps mysterious-tasting, flavor of holiday lore,” Jill Nelson, Dunkin’s vice president of marketing strategy, said in a statement. “It’s the perfect complement to our fan-favorite holiday latte lineup and brings even more delicious cheer to the Dunkin’ menu.”
Dunkin’ said the drink was inspired by “The Nutcracker” ballet and has been in the works since 2016.
The coffee chain released the color-changing, social media-worthy coffee on Wednesday.
There’s no arguing that the light-purple hue is definitely social media worthy. Dunkin’ is encouraging customers to share their description “of the Sugarplum Macchiato’s distinct and delightful taste via a special seasonal AR lens on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook using #DunkinSugarplum.”
The Sugarplum Macchiato isn’t the only new addition to the menu.
While you’re grabbing your morning coffee, try Dunkin’s new “Frosted Snowflake Donut,” which pairs well with the coffee thanks to its purple icing and snowflake sprinkles.
